FAQ

(also known as the IAQ: Infrequently Answered Questions)

Here are some questions that either have been asked or everyone's just too shy to ask them yet. So we'll make it easy and answer them for you. It cuts down on all of the social awkwardness as you work up the nerve to ask and then we pretend we know the answer while we quickly search around on the Carleton site looking for anything related.

If you have a question of your own, please ask it on the class FaceBook site - chances are the folks there will know or can find out for you. Or you can always send me a message directly and I can chase it down and add it to this list.

When is it again?
Thursday-Sunday, June 14-17, 2012. From 3 pm Thursday through noon Sunday.

Is reunion free?
No. But compared to the expense of Carleton tuition, it is damn cheap.

When do people sign up to come?
Online registration opens in early March at http://go.carleton.edu/reunion. Housing will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  Register early for the best chance to be housed with our class! The final registration deadline is June 1, but if you sign up before May 1, you’ll receive a 5% discount.

How do I find out who’s coming?
Once you sign up, your name and guests will be listed on the reunion attendance page – it’s updated daily. This is also a good excuse to call or email people you want to see – tell them you’ll be there and that you hope to see them.

Can I redo my comps?
No.

When should I arrive?
Check-in opens at 3 p.m. Thursday. There is a golf outing Thursday afternoon, a Basil’s (Bill’s Original) pizza party that evening, as well as a community festival, Taste of Northfield – including a James Gang bank raid reenactment.  Other activities, including faculty talks, Arb walks, etc., will begin Friday morning and continue through Sunday morning. Based on past experience and comments from reunion attendees, we recommend staying for the whole weekend (even alums in the Twin Cities area) for the best chance to reconnect with our classmates and see the campus. We only get one 25th reunion, after all.  Check-out is noon Sunday.

Where will we be housed?
Burton and Severance, with full use of the Burton terrace and quad area.

If I make arrangements with my comps advisor, can I try them again?
No.

What if I want to room with a friend?
Indicate on your registration form that you’re planning to room with someone and indicate their name. Once the Alumni Office receives registrations for all roommates, they will assign you a room. Burton and Sevy have singles, doubles, triples and a few quads.

How much does Reunion cost?
Reunion at Carleton is a bargain compared to most college and high-school reunions. The weekend package rate, which includes housing and all meals and programs Thursday through Sunday, will be approximately $220 per adult this year, and is payable by check or credit card. A la carte registration includes a registration fee of about $75 per adult.  Teen registration:  $40/weekend.  Children 12 and under do not pay a registration fee.  Meal costs will run approx. $12-25 per meal, with lower costs for children 12 and under. (Wine is included with dinner. Vegetarian entrees are always available, and gluten-free, vegan or kosher meals are available if requested in advance.)  The housing charge of $40 per bed covers the entire weekend and includes a linen packet with pillow, sheets, blanket and towels.  There is no charge for children who use sleeping bags and stay on their parents’ floor.  Airport shuttle service is available for $50 round trip or $25 one-way.

If I bring the 5.25" floppy disk that my comps are on, can I print them?
No.

What will my kids do?
An elementary school teacher and Carleton students will lead a reasonably priced “Camp Carleton” program of fun and educational activities for children ages 5 (must have completed kindergarten) to 12. The schedule includes computer fun, a “prairie and wood” program, art, swimming, movies, etc. Early registration (through the main reunion registration process) is recommended, as the program fills quickly.  Cost including meals is $50 for Friday, 1-8 pm, $30 for Saturday, 9 am-1 pm, or $50 for Saturday, 1-8 pm, with a special package price for all three. Teens (12-18) will be able to choose from a variety of programs and recreational activities throughout the weekend, the cost of which is covered by their registration fee. For children under 5, we will have a baby-sitter list; parents are responsible for fees. Children can also play the Carleton mini-golf course and enjoy a bounce house near the Bald Spot on Friday afternoon.

Can my kids do comps?
No.

What will my spouse/partner do?
Never fear, they do not need to hang out with us the entire time. There will be a packed program featuring Carleton faculty and alumni speakers, live music, Arb walks, yoga, etc., or they can explore Northfield, or take a nap in the Libe.

What about people with special needs?
The College can accommodate a range of needs from dietary allergies to accessibility issues. Contact the alumni office as early as possible to discuss your situation, or add specific notes to your registration form. Anyone who has requested a special meal in consultation with the dining services’ chef should check in with catering staff at each meal so they know how to find you.

Where can I find more information?
Visit the general reunion web site, http://go.carleton.edu/reunion. Schedule updates, final costs, menus and more will be updated there.

Can I redo my comps if I make a large donation to the class?
Let's talk.
